Project Overview
S80 Partnership provided event security services for the first Development Consent Order (DCO) Community Roadshow for STEP Fusion. The consultation programme took place across 12 venues, bringing together members of the public, project representatives, and local stakeholders.
The aim of the roadshow was to give local communities the opportunity to learn about the project and share their views in a safe and well-managed environment. S80 Partnership was appointed to manage event security at every location.
The Requirement
Public consultation events require a careful balance between accessibility and safety. Attendees should feel comfortable taking part in discussions, while organisers need reassurance that risks are properly managed.
For this roadshow, organisers required a security team that could:
Provide consistent event security across multiple venues
Carry out risk assessments for each location
Maintain a professional but discreet presence
Monitor crowds and manage potential issues
Ensure first aid support was available if required
Because these events involved open dialogue with the public, it was important that security measures supported the event environment rather than appearing overly visible or intrusive.
Our Approach
S80 Partnership delivered a structured security plan across all 12 roadshow venues.
In order to maintain a relaxed and welcoming environment for attendees, security officers operated in plain clothes, working in an incognito capacity rather than in traditional high-visibility roles. This allowed officers to blend naturally into the event setting while maintaining full situational awareness and the ability to respond quickly if needed.
Key elements of the security provision included:
Pre-event risk assessments for all venues
Plain-clothed security officers positioned throughout each event
Active monitoring of attendee behaviour and crowd movement
Conflict management and incident response planning
Fully First Aid–trained personnel available at every location
This approach ensured the consultation events remained open and approachable while still benefiting from professional security oversight.
The Outcome
The STEP Fusion Community Roadshow was delivered successfully across all 12 venues, with security support in place throughout the programme.
S80 Partnership helped ensure:
Safe and well-managed events
A comfortable environment for community engagement
Immediate response capability should any issues arise
Professional support for organisers and venue teams
The discreet security approach allowed attendees to focus on the consultation and discussions, while organisers had the reassurance that experienced security personnel were present and monitoring the environment.
